Find out Andy J Photography is coping with the Lockdown

We are all living in crazy times at the moment, we are all in it together but each of us is handling the situation differently so over the next few weeks we’ll asking some of our amazing exhibitors a Q&A so you can find out a little more about then and how they are coping with the Lockdown.

First up, is Andy J Photography, we’ve worked with Andy for a number of years and if you have been to one of our fairs then there is a good chance you will have met this cheerful, cheeky chap 🙂

Andy is a Liverpool based professional photographer with over 15 years of experience and has built up a reputation as one of the top photographers in the North West with a passion for what he love mosts … photography!

1) What is your style of photography

Definitely relaxed/informal with a hint of tradition…

2) Do you prefer colour or black or white

I love beautiful Autum colours, however B&W can bring so much depth to an image, so B&W all the way for me…

3) If you could only have 1 camera what would it be?

That’s so tough, ask any photographer …. there’s no such thing as a perfect camera, so probably a Hassleblad H6 for quality (£38,500) but they’re just too slow for wedding photography, so the new Leica M10 Ghost – as its ‘only’ £12,750 and a lens to boot for another £5k.

4) If you were getting married this weekend, what venue would you pick?

Ashfield House in Standish – a beautiful, purpose venue with stunning ceremony room & beautiful grounds, the foods pretty spectacular too…

(Ashfield House are exhibiting at The North West Wedding Show 26/27 September)

5) What is your favourite wedding venue to photograph?

Once again Ashfield House, however The Mere Golf resort in Cheshire on a sunny day is fantastic…

6) What is your favourite part of the wedding day for photos?

I love the prep, it’s great to see the anticipation building but I really enjoy going for a stroll with the couple after the wedding breakfast, everything is nice & relaxed to get some great shots & no one is hangry, sorry hungry…

7) Do you prefer inside or outside wedding photos?

Outside all day long, no better feeling than being outside…

8) How many people were in your largest family photo?

Coming from Liverpool I know how large some families can get, I had a family shoot on the Brides side of over 40 people at Formby Hall last year, the total wedding number was around 150

9) On average how long does the editing take?

I understand everyone wants to look at their photo’s asap, so I offer a very unique proposition, whereby I provide a 40 image smartphone app within 2 weeks of a wedding and the final image release within 15 days, so no hanging about.

10) Who is the most difficult person to deal with at weddings – in general?

Usually the drunkest…

11) What’s the strangest animal you have photographed at a wedding?

Nothing too outrageous but I have had many weddings with the family pet, usually a dog dressed up with a dickie bow…

12) Have you ever covered a wedding where the bride and groom weren’t speaking?

Yes usually when the groom stands on her dress or pulls on her veil, but it doesn’t last for long…

13) If you weren’t a photographer, what would you do?

I always wanted to be a fireman…

14) What are you missing the most about the lockdown?

Other than weddings, I’m really missing my mum…

15) If the lockdown was lifted tomorrow, where is the the first place you would go?

Definitely my Mum’s house for a big hug and a cuppa…

(Ok Andy …. that’s made us all shed a little tear!)

16) If you could only buy one item of food, what would you buy?

Chocolate, enough said…

17) What is the most common first dance song you have heard?

Ed Sheeran – Perfect – Nothing wrong with it by the way, it’s a beautiful song

18) What’s the latest a bride has been to arrive at the church/venue?

1hr 15 Mins …. and she was only upstairs!!!

19) What are you using your daily outdoor allowance for?

I have been running 3 times a week and cycling the other days, I usually go out at 7am, it’s such a beautiful time of the day…

20) Have you discovered any new hobbies/skills since being in lockdown?

Baking… I’ve been making cakes with my Daughter, don’t think I will cut it as a pro though…

21) Scrabble or Monopoly?

Scrabble all day long, I do love playing Monopoly but it’s just too long and my son is a terrible cheat…
