For iconic photographs you need to speak to Icon Studio!
This amazingly talented duo, Ant and Lynsay have years of professional photographic expertise behind them and their ethos is all about creating a calm and fun environment to capture those ‘killer’ photos that you will treasure always.
Always cheerful, always with a huge smile on their faces we love having a catch up with them at the wedding fairs so as we now can’t see them until the re-scheduled fair on Sunday 9th August we had a little virtual chat instead to find out all about them and their style of photography.
What is your style of photography?
We try to keep informal and relaxed in everything we do. That means telling your story by capturing your day as it happens, rather than non-stop posing. Yes, there is time for some amazing photos of you as a couple, which are set up very informally, but that is such a small percentage of your day. So – in simple terms – relaxed, informal, documentary style.
Do you prefer black or white?
It depends on the photo! We like to mix it up when editing your photos, so you get an huge variety of imagery.
Which celebrity couple would you love to photograph?
Liam Gallagher and Debbie’s Wedding!
Which historical couple, past or present would you love to be the wedding photographer for?
John Lennon & Yoko Ono
What is your favourite wedding venue to photograph?
Gosh we have loads, and all for different reasons! We are the preferred supplier for the Oak Tree of Peover, and this place feels like our second home. It really does help knowing the staff and grounds well, and makes for such a relaxed day.
If you were getting married this weekend, which venue would you pick and why?
The Tunnel Cornwall – Beach Wedding in the Sunshine!
Do you prefer inside or outside wedding photos?
Outside if possible – lots of natural light makes for incredible photos. We always feel like everything is a little more chilled when they’re outside too.
What is your favourite photo you have ever taken?
We have far too many to chose from – each photo is a memory for us. A memory of a special day we shared with our couples.
On average how long does the editing take?
It depends massively on the season, at the start of weddings season 3-4 weeks nearer the end 8-10 weeks. A wedding takes about a week to edit – obviously as the wedding season kicks in, the weddings start to stack up a little. But it’s great being so busy!!
Who is the most difficult person to deal with at weddings – in general?
Vicars seem to be only people we ever have issues with, and it’s mainly about where we can and can’t stand, or if we even allowed to be in the church! Generally speaking though, they are lovely.
If a couple was paying for you to cover their wedding aboard, where would be your ideal destination?
That’s a tough one – we have a wedding in Lake Como in 2021, which was meant to be this year, that’s going to be exciting! A boat over to a private Island, glorious Sunshine on the lake; perfect!
Have you ever covered a wedding where the bride and groom weren’t speaking?
If you weren’t a photographer, what would you do?
Lynsay – Either Midwife or Zookeeper
Ant – Musician
What are you missing the most about the lockdown?
Going out exploring – we love the outdoors so for us not being able to go wandering around finding new places and seeing new things is really tough!
If the lockdown was lifted tomorrow, where is the the first place you would go?
Have you discovered any new hobbies/skills since being in lockdown?
Nothing new, we’ve just had lots of time to do more of things we love. I’ve been in the garden a lot and have grown so much this year in terms of flowers, veggies etc – Ant’s been writing songs and getting more creative with his music. But lockdown for us has just meant a lot of time at home with the kids, making memories and making the most of the time we have with our children.
If you could only buy one item of food, what would you buy?
Lynsay – Pizza!
Ant – Chicken!
What is the best meal you have ever had covering a wedding? Or do you take your own food?
Cannon of Lamb from Top Table – there are no words on how incredible this was. We are pretty big lovers of Pizza too!
What’s the latest a bride has been to arrive at the church/venue?
Over an hour, to a church where the vicar nearly cancelled the wedding.
How many weddings have been moved during lockdown and have they managed to rebook next year?
Over 30 – most of them yes but a few we have unfortunately not been free on their new date 🙁
Have you got a message for couples who are trying to plan their weddings at the moment?
If you have to postpone don’t panic – your wedding will still be the wedding you planned, just a little later than you thought. If you are planning, keep planning and when you have found a supplier you love, secure them with a deposit whether that’s a photographer, cake maker, venue dresser or make up artist – we all get pretty booked up so secure who you want as soon as you’ve found them!
