If you attended The North West Wedding Show in January then you would have seen the transformation of our VIP Lounge and stage, which was designed by Thornton Events, we told them what we wanted and they really did bring both areas to life so if you are looking to give your venue the WOW factor, then the lovely duo from Thornton Event may be the team for you as they work to all budgets and really can make a difference.
Lindsey and Ant would have been at the fair today so you could have a lovely little chat with them about the ideas you have for your wedding theming but as you now can’t meet them until the Wedding Fair on 9th August, we have asked them some questions about how they started the company and where they get their ideas from.
How and why did you start your business?
While planning our own wedding we wanted blossom trees but found them over our budget. We both hated our full time jobs so we made the decision to buy the blossom trees and set up our own business. The name came from the fact we purchased our first home together on Thornton Road and we got married in Thornton Manor. The name was meant for us!!
How do you work with couples ie. do you suggest themes/colours or do they have an idea already?
Every couple is different some know exactly what they want so we just put a quote together and make suggestions. However, with the majority of couples we have a phone consultation or meet at venue and go through ideas. We let them send us things they like the look of so we can get idea on their style and we build a package based on their dreams.
Which celebrity couple would you like to provide venue dressing for?
This is difficult question for us as we don’t follow celebrity couples, our brides and grooms are just as important ….however a royal wedding would be amazing !

If you were getting married this weekend, what venue would you pick?
What is your favourite venue to work with ie what always looks the best as a backdrop?
We love so many, I love a big room
With tall ceilings such as Peckforton Castle. But a lovely barn wedding is also a lovely choice I love the mix of brick and wood and bringing the outside inside a barn is just stunning!
If a couple booked you to provide your services abroad (all expenses paid), which country/destination would you like it to be?
Florida – we are massive Disney Fans! Lindsey loves watching Disney weddings on Disney plus!
What is the most amount of venues you have dressed in one day?
4 in 24 hours …. while Lindsey was in labour!
We do only take one wedding per date but had to fit all our weekend wedding set ups into 24 hours and have family do the change around so Jay could get to hospital 🙂

Any new products you are thinking of adding to your stock this year?
We have just got new floral stands and fFloral centrepieces and now work with fresh flowers. We can customise our moongate with fresh or artificial flowers.
We also have added a new Post Box to our collection and now we are florists also, we can create customised designs for all our clients.
How many wedding venues can you dress in one day?
We try to do one only so that we are both on the same wedding. However, due to Covid 19, we have had to next double-book a number of weddings next year to fit some of our couples.
Is ironing the chair covers and sashes the least favourite part of your job?
We work with another company who do our chairs and covers and bows so luckily that isn’t part of our job 🙂
They are fantastic at what they do and I generally do believe we work with the best in the business.
What is the craziest thing you have been asked to create?
What’s classed as crazy …. Lindsey used to work at Farmageddon as a Scare Actor so wouldn’t think anything was crazy.
We do have an interesting Harry Potter one we are dressing next year but nothing is too crazy for us as we love individuality!
If you weren’t doing this, what would you do?
Lindsey would be working full time as a business travel agent and Jay would be a Leisure and Spa Manager but he quit his job in January so is full time on business now.
What are you missing the most about the lockdown?
We are missing doing weddings and all the reviews and weddings photos we love receiving after the weddings have taken place.
Lindsey is also missing being able to take April to baby groups and letting her socialise with other babies but we are enjoying all the family time together!
If you could only buy one item of food for yourself, what would you buy?
A McDonald’s double cheese burger (plain just cheese only)
Have you discovered any new hobbies/skills since being in lockdown?
Lindsey tried gin for the first time, not sure this is classed as a skill but it could be her new hobby!
We have also been doing hand-tied bouquets to help the current situation at Chester Zoo so we donate £3 for every bouquet to help keep them with their huge costs of feeding the animals and keeping the zoo going for when they can re-open. We have more details on our Facebook page.
Do you have a minimum order for venue dressing?
Yes we do, we like to think it’s reasonable and we do try our very best to work to a brides or grooms budget. Our minimum order is £500.
How far are you willing to travel to do weddings?
We will travel anywhere within the U.K.
What are your opening hours?
As long as we are awake we like to try and respond on the same day. Usually within a few hours, if we don’t reply please give us a chase as it means we haven’t received your message.
TOP TIP on how do you create a couple’s dream theme on a small budget.
Every wedding is different, but we will make alternative suggestions to create a look to help keep costs down. We work on building a look to fit couples budgets. Message us and let us know your budget and theme and we can make suggestions, we will always give a few options. Re-using items from ceremony for wedding breakfast is a great idea to start with.
