A wedding venue fit for royalty, with exclusive use of 4 seperate locations, acres of stunning landscaped grounds and a plethora (don’t you just love that word!) of awards, this grade II listed Estate is the one of the most romantic wedding venues around… welcome to Thornton Manor Estate.
Built in the middle of the 19th century for Lord Levenhulme, the Estate is surrounded by exquisite park and gardens designed by Thomas Mawson. Standing proudly in the village of Thornton Hough, the historic estate is set amongst an oasis of rural calm and beautifully presented countryside and exudes historic enchantment and charm.
Not only does Thornton Manor offer the Stately Manor as a wedding venue but for couples looking for a contemporary wedding the Lakeside Marquee is on offer, The Dell and the Thatched Cottage are perfect for rustic weddings and for grand affairs, The Walled Garden seats 2,000 guests.
The Dining Room at Thornton Manor formed the perfect backdrop for the recent BoHo Bride photo shoot, the warm glow of the room set off the flowers by Aubyn Designs to perfection and the French Doors leading out to the Lime Tree lined avenue made the most stunning photographs. The Bridal Suite is light and airy and gave the perfect light for Sisterhood Liverpool’s make-up artist Megan and it is a beautiful space for brides or grooms to get ready before the ceremony.
We love working with the Thornton Manor team, they couldn’t do enough for us on the day of the shoot. They are missing the hustle and bustle of The Manor being filled with wedding guests and can’t wait to all their venues are full once again. The Music Room is made for weddings and the Lakeside Marquee is perfect for long summer nights watching the sun setting over the Lake as everyone dances the night away.
We asked the Thornton Manor what they loved about working at Thornton Manor and what makes it so special….
What does Thornton Manor have to offer that other venues don’t have?
We have a saying at Thornton Manor ‘anything is possible’. We strongly believe every couple’s wedding is unique to them and we tailor every aspect to ensure this happens. Going the extra mile is all part of the process at Thornton Manor whether it is helping the bride or groom get ready, reassuring them and their family that everything will be exactly as they have dreamed of or treating the wedding as one of our own. There is a number of ways we have shown that we would go above and beyond the normal call of duty including that the Event Supervisor not only briefing the staff on the essential running order of the day but also details such as religious customs and traditions to ensure that all staff working on the event have a clear understanding and respect for the entire day. We love new ideas and being creative, it makes every wedding bespoke. We love the idea that no two weddings at Thornton Manor are the same. Individuality is one of the main ethos here at Thornton Manor.
You have 4 separate locations for weddings within the grounds, what is your favourite element of each location?
Each location is completely unique and more importantly, each location has its own entrance and is set in its own grounds so even if each venue is booked on the same day, each wedding is completely isolated from the other wedding and you will never see or have any contact with the other wedding party or guests.
The Manor House – 100% the history behind the Manor. For example, when Philip Lever, 3rd Viscount Leverhulme resided in the house from 1949, he was a friend of the Royal Family, Her Majesty the Queen Mother who stayed regularly at Thornton Manor sharing with Phillip his passion for horse racing. Other members of the Royal Family would also stay at Thornton Manor including Prince Philip, Princess Margaret, and Lord Snowdon, along with many other visitors such as members of other royal families, heads of state, Prime Ministers and politicians, captains of industry and people of the arts and academic world.
The Waterside Pavilion – The marquee is surrounded by beautiful woodland, which makes the venue feel very secluded & exclusive. As it starts to get dark, we have fairy lights & floodlights positioned in and around the trees which also light up the mini-lake, which adds to the whimsical atmosphere.
The Lakeside Marquee – The private lake hidden away at The Lakeside Marquee is one of the biggest wow-factors on the estate. Brides and Grooms who have booked the Lakeside Marquee have the option to arrive at the venue by boat, which truly is unique.
The Walled Garden – Our Walled Garden Marquee can hold up to 2000 guests. With a lot of large venues, because they are such large spaces they are usually stripped back & very generic looking, however our marquee gives you a feeling of elegance and luxury from the moment you step in through the secret door. The ceiling of the marquee is laced with fairy lights and cream chiffon lining, giving a starlit effect when it gets dark outside & is the first thing you notice when walking into the marquee.
What do you love most about your job?
Turning brides and grooms’ dreams into reality! No day is every the same, we love meeting the couples and working with them to give them their dream wedding – that is priceless.
